I woke up this morning, weighing in at 258.8 lbs. This is officially 11.2 lbs less than when I started on May 15th. I am very happy with this progress, but I also know that you start big and then your progress levels out. Sort of like a Bell Curve. As of my measurements on Sunday, I am 4.75 inches overall less than what I was in April.
I did get up this morning and was at the gym by 5:15am. I did my first BodyPump class this morning. Heather was a very friendly instructor and was very helpful in getting me started. I enjoyed the class. My thinking is that they need a 30min beginner course, but that is just my opinion. Can't complain about the girl:guy ratio though. :-) Me, one other guy, and 10-12 ladies.
Take aways from this morning: Need to dial in the Pre-Work Out Nutrition when doing my workouts first thing in the morning. Going in on an empty stomach causes really bad nausea. Eating a piece of whole wheat toast with natural peanut butter on the car ride over DEFINITELY causes bad nausea.

Welcome!
This Blog is a tool that I will use to track my trials and tribulations in my journey to achieve my goal to get into shape and lose weight. I have no misconceptions that this will be easy, or that it will happen overnight. I am committed and motivated to make this happen. And I started this blog so that my friends around the country could follow my progress and join me in my journey.
On May 15th, 2009 I sat at 270 lbs. The goal is to be at 191 lbs by the end of the year. I will do this by following a strict "Clean Eating" diet and extensive exercise at the gym.
I get a lot of flack for calling this "Mission: Babe Magnet." I am constantly asked what it means? Well first of all it is just a name. A name that catches attention, and yet sums up what I want to accomplish. But to break it down, we first look at the term "Mission"... For me, a goal is something that you strive for. It's like shooting for the stars. It reminds me of this motivational speaker that said, "It is better to shoot for the stars and miss, than to aim for a cow patty and hit." Well, I don't want to just strive to be in shape and looking awesome. I am going to accomplish it. A Mission however is a collection of objectives. There is a beginning and an end. There is no room for failure. You may encounter a setback, but you never stop until the objectives of the mission are completed.
As for the "Babe Magnet" term... Most of the time a babe magnet is an object that a man has that attracts the ladies. Maybe it is a convertible, a sports car, a motorcycle, a huge house, or even a huge bank account. Well, I don't want to have to rely on objects in order to get noticed. I want to attract the ladies with my infectious smile, my gorgeous eyes, my charming personality and sense of humor, and a nice physique.
There is a saying, "A man falls in love with a woman that he is attracted to. A woman is attracted to a man that she is in love with." It is very true and I need to attract the kind of women that I am attracted to, so that woman will get close enough to find out how awesome I am on the inside and then fall in love with me. To do that, I know that I have to work on my exterior.
And for the record, I have no goal to become a man whore. This is not about looking hot and banging as many different women as I can. As I tell my friends, I am not greedy. I am not asking for a harem. I just want one woman. A very special woman that I want to share many memories and spend the rest of my life with. A woman that I can celebrate a 50 year Wedding Anniversary (God willing that I live that long). But that is a whole other goal in my life for a different blog.
We commonly refer to dating as "putting ourselves on the market." To me, if you are going to put yourself on the market, then it is no different than selling a house. You can have the most amazing house on the inside, but if you don't take the extra effort to fix the outside and do some landscaping, you aren't going to attract the most buyers that are going to give you the most money for your house. Well... I am putting myself on the market. So this mission is my way of fixing up the troublesome spots on the exterior and working on the landscaping.
So there you have it. This is my Mission. And I am titling it, Mission: Babe Magnet.
